So how strong is your immunity to change? Are you challenged by new expectations, ways of working with others, leading others in new ways of teaching and learning? If so we hope you will join over 100 other educators from around the state in exploring our own immunities to change and the impact the assumptions we hold about our work have on our success. As I review Dr. Kegan’s book in preparation for the learning, I am intrigued with a quote from the book; “…leaders increasingly ask people to do things they are not now able to do, were never prepared to do, and are not yet developmentally well matched to do.”
In our work of professional learning do we attend to what Dr. Kegan describes as “the most powerful source of ability: our capacity …to overcome, at any age, the limitations and blind spots of current ways of making meaning.” I am looking forward to better understanding my own limitations and blind spots that serve the purpose of providing me immunity to change. I am comforted in knowing that at this ripe old age I too am able to reach deep into my own capacity to overcome my current ways of knowing the world and “develop” into new ways of understanding. I hope you too will come along on this journey as we need leaders like you to lead us into the future!
